The Idea of ThinkBox Athletics
ThinkBox Athletics was founded on the idea that most athletes train their bodies very well, but they neglect their most powerful body part: their mind. Athletes everywhere can benefit from added knowledge and increased mental training.
Shawn & ThinkBox Athletics
Shawn Ribordy founded ThinkBox Athletics in 2005 so that he could pass on his athletic experiences. He has coached swimming at Peoria Notre Dame High School for 8 years. During his tenure, Shawn has grown the PND Swimming and Diving team into force to be reckoned with. He led the Irish to their first Conference Title in 2003 and then repeated that feat in 2004 and topped it off with a Sectional Title. He is also an Ironman Triathlete.
Shawn firmly believes that you don't have to be a world class athlete to participate in athletics for your entire life, and have worthy athletic goals.
Shawn's Coaching Philosophy
My basic philosophy is that athletics should be enjoyed for your entire life. Therefore, athletic development should be performed with a long-term outlook. It is my belief that endurance training or conditioning is just one aspect of athletic preparation. Mental prowess and sport specific skills are just as important as a strong aerobic capacity. All athletes should be knowledgeable about their sport and the skills necessary to perform it well. Furthermore, I believe that athletics is just one area of your life. Every great athlete pursues other interests, and must balance those interests with their athletic lifestyle. My simple goal is to assist my athletes in obtaining their athletic goals. It is my firm belief that there are worthwhile goals at all skill and experience levels, and these goals are worth working towards.
